Because Every Emotion Deserves a Name

Children growing up in slums face challenges that go far beyond just food, shelter or education. What often gets missed is their emotional world — their fears, their dreams, their need to feel safe and understood. Emotional well-being is rarely given the attention it deserves, and we wish to change this.

We aim to build a space where children can breathe, express and simply be themselves. Through art, storytelling, peer support, workshops or simple conversations, we aim to nurture their confidence, help them cope with daily struggles and make them emotionally literate and resilient.

Our Purpose

Mission

To create safe, inclusive and emotionally nurturing spaces where children, caregivers and communities can learn to feel without fear, heal with support and grow with self-awareness. Through creative, culturally sensitive activities like art, storytelling and peer connection, we aim to build emotional literacy at the grassroots level — helping children name their feelings, express them with confidence and understand the emotions of those around them. We want mental health to be something not just spoken about but deeply felt, lived and shared.

Where We're Headed

Vision

We dream of a world where every child grows up feeling seen, heard and emotionally understood. A world where children support one another, recognise their own strengths and find hope even in the hardest moments. Through everyday acts of trust, empathy and emotional safety, we envision communities where mental well-being is considered not a luxury but a necessity.

Why This Matters

Background & Rationale

Globally, mental health concerns are far more common than we often admit — in 2019, 1 in every 8 people was living with a mental health condition, a number that reflects not just isolated suffering but a collective, urgent need for emotional support (WHO, 2022). And yet, in many communities we aim to reach, there is no clear path to express, reflect or seek help.

Project Ehsaas is being developed to fill that gap — to create spaces where mental health is not a luxury or an afterthought, but a natural part of daily life. Rooted in the Uttejana Foundation's mission to empower through awareness, education and sustainable grassroots initiatives, this project is supported not only in design and delivery but also through ongoing community engagement built on years of trust in these very communities.
